The Working Paper

Hey everyone!

I've started work on my paper and would appreciate any and all feedback! Thank you so much for taking the time to read it

  1. Wow that was really moving. I hadn't heard of this man's story before, but that was so inspirational. In a just a few pages you were able to articulate the trials he went through very well and felt the importance of not only watching the video but reading the book as well to gain further insight into his life. I'll be excited to read the final draft!

  2. It sounds like during the speech, Pausch was going for a purely positive effect. But in the book, he included all the ironies, paradoxes, and ambiguities that typify human experience. That shows that he is more authentic/sincere, since he isn't trying to reduce experience. The apparent contradictions really add "richness" to the unified whole. The essay "Pure and Impure Poetry" by Robert Penn Warren talks about this kind of stuff. You might find it useful.

    1. Never mind that Pure and Impure Poetry article is a lot thicker than I thought.

    2. No worries! Thanks so much for your feedback. That's a great point that I hadn't thought about before, that the book brings in his anxieties and fears and not just his positivity. I'm going to mention that in my paper. Thanks!

  3. I love your paper already! It gave me goosebumps! I can't think of any specific critiques at the moment, but I'll let you know if I do. I think you did a really good job of showing what the book brings to the table as opposed to the speech.
